Last week, I had the pleasure of asking local DC fashion blogger, Liz Fassbender of So Much to Smile About, a couple of questions. As a "DC" blogger myself (okay, so I live in Arlington), it's always nice to read about someone who lives right down the street from you. Now, I know what you're thinking: Fashion... DC... ehhh doubtful. Well guess what, you would be wrong, suckers. Liz's effortless classic style and eye for the right colors, shapes, and amazing jewelry, really gives DC fashion a good name. You would think that her positive outlook and and adorable smile would nauseate me, but really, it just keeps me coming back for more.
........................................
Describe your style in 3 words: minimal, classic, edgy
What is your guilty pleasure item of clothing that you would never wear out of the house? Maybe my Green Bay Packers pajama pants? Or my Ugg boots... both of which are completely acceptable in public in Wisconsin (where I'm from)! Not so much here in DC!
You have $75 to make an outfit. Where do you go and what do you buy? How do you stay chic on a budget? Lately, I've loved everything at Old Navy. I also have pretty good luck at vintage or thrift stores. I'd probably grab some jeans from Forever21 and a top from Old Navy or H&M, and add some fun accessories or vintage touches. I mix and match things all the time so I get a lot of use out of what's already in my closet.
As far as fashion goes, what are the pros and cons of living in DC? I mean these tired suits and sneakers is just embarrassing. They are! But I actually think DC has gotten a lot better recently. There are some incredibly talented and stylish people here! And everyone is super motivated, so it’s a great community to be a part of.
What is one thing that is in your wardrobe that you would rather kick a puppy than give up? I’d have to say my favorite pair of worn-in jeans, or my vintage Manolo Blahnik pumps. But as a new puppy owner, I’d probably just roll the dog around with my foot… does that count?
If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be? I always need to remind myself to mix it up, break the rules, step out of my comfort zone, etc. But then I usually end up wearing what I’m most comfortable in, which usually involves a lot of black. It’s hard to look bad in black!
What are your favorite trends right now? Which trends would you like to see shot in the head and dumped into the ocean? I like all the neon! I'm not huge into colorful outfits but I love adding pops of neon color. And I hate the pajama trend. I just don't understand.
You're hungover and its time to grub. Where do you go and what do you eat? Vinoteca, Ulah Bistro or U Street Cafe in my neighborhood - nothing like pancakes or an egg and cheese sandwich and mimosas to recover!
Georgetown Cupcakes or Sprinkles? Georgetown Cupcakes.
What is your favorite thing to wear for a girls night out and where would you go? I don't mix it up much (like I said) - it's usually faux leather pants or black jeans with a slouchy top, or a black tshirt dress. Always high heels and liquid eyeliner. And we'll usually head to a bar with good music, like El Centro, New Vegas Lounge or Black Jack.
Okay, I kind of want to run my fingers through your hair. What are your beauty secrets? Haha well I like to keep things simple! I shower and wash my hair at night, add some Moroccan Oil and let it air dry overnight. Then all I need to do in the morning is use the curling iron to fix it up. For makeup, I use Laura Mercier foundation, Benefit blush/bronzer, various mascaras and liquid eyeliner (I love Le Metier de Beaute).
If you had to walk around naked for 24 hours with the exception of one accessory, shoe, hat, etc, what would it be and why? It’d have to be high, high heels!
